UoG Continues to Seek Strong Ties with Japan
It could be recalled that H.E. Mr. Daisuke Matsunaga, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia visited the University of Gondar and held discussions with Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, President of UoG, on February 26, 2019.
Welcoming the Ambassador and Ms. Junko Itakura (Second Secretary, Economic Cooperation Division at the Embassy of Japan), Dr. Asrat briefed them on the history and several achievements of the University of Gondar and the various contributions of the government of Japan to UoG in many developmental areas.
Just some of the areas of collaboration includes:
1. The link the University of Gondar had with Tokushima University which supported a number of faculty members in their quest for quality higher education. UoG staff gained scholarships by the Japanese government in different forms.
2. The University gained support for public and private partnership projects in the Simien Mountain National Park and surrounding area to enhance the livelihood of the communities through conservation and rehabilitation of the natural resources, and;
3. The Japanese as a sign of good will also provided our campuses with Sakura seedlings (Cherry Blossom) which is one of the most renowned trees of the world; along with many more good gestures.
