H.E. Prof Afework Kassu, State Minister of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, visited the different campuses of the University of Gondar on August 11, 2019.
Discussions were held and the prominent talking point included internationalization, and the current status and future directions of the university in its move towards strengthening academic, research and community service activities.
H.E. Prof Afework Kassu also briefly presented the historical relation of Ethiopia and Japan in general, and the Tokushima University and the University of Gondar in particular.
The State Minister emphasised the need to strengthen the academic link with Tokushima University based on the academic agreement which was signed in 2007 between the two education institutions.
After the talks the President of the University Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, UoG higher officals and the State Minister visited a garden where Cherry Blossum seedlings, a Japanese plant, were planted in 2013. The Cherry seedlings, which bloom in April, were brought to strengthen cultural and country to country relations between the two countries.
