President Sahle-Work Zewde works with UoG
The University of Gondar, in the last couple of weeks has been on a pace to keep up with Prime Minister Dr. Abyi Ahmed’s green revolution. UoG which is a University with over 45,000 students and numerous staff members is the flagship institution in the city of Gondar and Ethiopia in general. Setting an example for the region UoG has been able to plant many trees which is contributing to the sustainable green development of the country.
Picking up with this trend the President of the country Mrs. Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the State of Amhara Mr. Temesgen Tiruneh and the President of the University of Gondar Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn worked together to create new green areas on UoG’s campuses.
In one day Ethiopia has been able to plant 350 million tress which makes it a World Record. The University of Gondar, on its part, was able to plant, over a 6.3 hectare piece of land, 16 thousand trees which will be vital for Ethiopias future growth.
According to the media reports “The previous World Record for planting trees in a single day was held by India, which used 800,000 volunteers to plant more than 50 million trees in 2016.”
