Message from Head of Tourism management
I am wishing you all a very Happy New Year
Considering the country’s demand of getting well skilled professionals in diversified fields, the University of Gondar has started a new training in Tourism Management in the academic year 2003-2004. By this, the University of Gondar has become the first university in Ethiopia to launch a Tourism Management degree-program. The Centre for Tourism Studies has found a unique place in the spectrum of Tourism education, research, training and consultancy across Ethiopia. The Department has been doing a commendable work in imparting value added and innovative tourism, travel and hospitality subjects in Degree level.
Considering the need, the department started a postgraduate program in Tourism and Heritage Management in the academic year 2010/2011. This postgraduate program in tourism and heritage management has been designed to meet the demands of the middle and senior level managerial positions in some of the multinational travel, tourism and hospitality companies across the country. The mission of the department is to become the “center of excellence” in tourism and hospitality education, research, consultancy and other community services in Ethiopia by 2020. And the overall objective of the department is to produce critical thinking and competent graduates capable of providing the full scope of the best tourism management practices as defined by the profession.
The department has been undertaking a number of problem solving research, community service and technology transfer projects that enhances the country’s tourism industry. Our department has been awarded as “the best department of the year, 2012” from the whole departments of the University and selected as the best department of the College of Business and Economics for the two consecutive academic years (2015/16 and 2016/17). The department welcomes any kind of research, community service and technology transfer requests.
