| University of Gondar celebrates tourism week |

The long awaited and heavily prepared tourism week was celebrated by the tourism management department in Gondar University. This special week has been celebrated with different colorful programs showing the real talent of the students and its valueless contribution to be the country in multifarious way.
The significance of the celebration is highly attributed by high ranking government officials. On the opening ceremony, deputy minster of Culture and Tourism, W/o Tadelech Dalecho credited the university with being the pioneer in launching this field of study producing well qualified professionals who can make a difference in this much-to-be explored ‘smokeless industry’. She also points that other universities could learn a lot from this outstanding and effortless gesture the institution is showing towards promoting the tourism industry which can make multiple contributions for the development of the town and the country as well.
Dr. Mengesha Admassu, president of UOG, on his part addressed the very mission of the university; “it is one of our growing concern to contribute to modernizing the tourism industry in our country and benefit what we deserve from this industry.” In due course he underlines that the university is undertaking multi dimensional researches in a bid to contribute for the development of the sector. The weeklong celebration comprises of different colorful events, programs, panel discussions aiming at; raising the awareness of the society about sector; making all stake holders feel higher level of sense of belongingness to historical sites, ancient treasures and antiquities. Virtually, as there is no other place than Gondar as comforting for the study of tourism management , the department shoulders a great burden in keeping the industry develop. Fortunately, as the town established way back to more than 2000 years, is rich in history, cultures, traditions, antiquities and treasures- are the pearl of tourism. Henceforth, as it is seen in the occasion the students, instructors and the society should come together and keep on making the country one of the massively preferable and high ranking tourist sites in Africa and the world, of course.
