One of the primary missions of University of Gondar is delivering timely and appropriate community service to the community. The directorate, under the vice president for research and community service, is responsible in supporting and coordinating the community service provision of the university.
Ever since its establishment as training and service providing center for Malaria, Gondar Public Health College and Training Centre in1954, the University of Gondar has been putting immense contribution to the nation in the area of teaching-learning, research and community services that are the cornerstone upon which higher educational institution are established. The community around the University has been benefiting from a wide range and evidence- based community services targeted towards solving societal problems on the basis of scientific investigations. The Directorate has 11 coordination office at each Colleges/Institute/Faculty/school, 1 Youth center and 1 legal aid center Coordination offices and 1 central project administrator office.
The community service Projects/ Ideas may base on three ways, from the community and Sector offices, Staff Research and technology Transfer Projects findings, Cross Cutting Issues from Federal and Regional Governments. The Directorate use budget from Partner organizations, Cost sharing from service seeking office, governmental and nongovernmental organizations and Regular University Budget allocated from the Federal Government.
